Vigil of Solidarity
The Community Vigil for Orlando
Daisies and lit candles in solidarity for the victims of the Orlando massacre. This was part of a vigil for the victims of the massacre, held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Athens and Sheshequin (UUCAS) this evening, Towanda UU Fellowship members attended. The vigil was led by Rev Darcey Laine the Minister of UUCAS and TUUF, and included welcome and opening remarks by Rev Darcey Laine, the lighting of the chalice, a Statement from the Religious Institute, read by Ginna Shapiro from TUUF, the reading of the 23rd psalm by Cindy Singer, from the Commuity Mennonite Fellowship of Corning, there was music from several UUCAS musicians including Katie Replogle (Prelude "Ashokan Farewell" by Jay Unger and Molly Mason, "Solace" by Scott Joplin), Janelle Daddona ("Imagine" by John Lennon") and Andy Fagan ("True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper, and "We Shall Overcome"), Prayers were led by Rev Laine, a reading of the deceased victim's names way done by Chris Eng, Jill Worthington and Cindy Singer, and was accompanied by the placing of daisies around the edge of the bowl in the photograph by the attendees, a Time for Reflections and Sharing followed during which time people came forward individually and lit a candle and were welcomed to share their feelings and reflections. Rev Laine led the final prayers and the chalice was extinguished..
